A landmark case relative to rapidly moving islands and riparian rights is the St. Louis vs. Rutz case, decided by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1891.
The case concerned Arsenal Island in the Mississippi River. In 1863 it was owned by the City of St. Louis and was on the west side of the main channel separating Illinois and Missouri.
