Title Conveyance Considerations

If a BLM surveyor becomes involved in conveyance of title to a state, four points must be considered.

Identification by Public Land Survey

Title is not complete until the lands are accurately identified by public land survey.

Field Note Records

Some states use field note records in making lists of lands selected as being within the swamp land definition.

Investigation

Some states send representatives into the field or use BLM reports as a basis for selection of swamp lands.

Approval

Once these lists are approved by the Secretary of the Interior, as required by federal law, title to the areas is conveyed to the state.
