In refuting the doctrine of accretion contention for ownership of the island, the appeals court stated:

“To this rule, however, there is a well-established and rational exception.

Where a river changes its main channel not by excavating, passing over and then filling the intervening place between its old and its now main channel, but by flowing around this intervening land which never becomes in the mean time its main channel.”
