Introduction

Land ownership and respect for property are fundamental values of our society and our nation. As federal land managers, we have a duty to respect the ownership rights of non-federal owners, while we safeguard the resources that the American people have entrusted to us.

The Standards for Boundary Evidence process was adopted as Department of the Interior (DOI) policy to improve the way we acquire and manage our lands. These agencies have long used processes similar to SBE in land acquisition or conversion of fee-to-trust land in Indian Country.
